Mark your calendars for Monday, November 4, 2024! The Nippon Club proudly presents its annual Autumn Music Event, with this year’s theme, “Women in Jazz – A Spectacular Night of Jazz.” Not only will this gala showcase the artistry of Japanese female jazz pianists based in New York City, but it will also serve as the highly anticipated kick-off event for our new concert series, From Tokyo to Times Square.
The evening begins with a buffet dinner, where guests can indulge in delicious cuisine and lively conversation before the musical journey unfolds. Following the dinner, guests will be treated to two extraordinary live jazz performances.
The first part of the performance introduces From Tokyo to Times Square, a series launching this November to celebrate Japanese jazz talent in the heart of New York City. This opening night will pay special tribute to the legendary Ms. Toshiko Akiyoshi, whose remarkable achievements as a pianist and composer have profoundly influenced jazz. Her trailblazing career has inspired generations, and this gala aims to honor her lasting legacy with a heartfelt musical tribute.
The second half of the evening will spotlight the MSM Band from the Manhattan School of Music, a talented group of young jazz artists known for their innovative and dynamic interpretations of jazz. Their energetic performance will capture the vibrancy of New York’s jazz scene, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity.
